TYPICAL DUTIES:
  • The Carpenter is responsible for providing formwork construction for placement of concrete and assistance in other projects on the job

  • Using small hand tools to construct and set forms and embeds

  • Assisting other coworkers in all necessary requirements to prepare for the placement of concrete

  • Loading and unloading of equipment and materials

  • Interacting with subcontractors to provide required assistance on construction activities

  • Ensuring that all OSHA and company safety requirements are implemented and used properly

  • Studies plans, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated

  • Ensuring that all work is being performed per contract documents, specifications, and provisions

  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials

  • Identifies tie off and access points, installing ladders to meet safety requirements, tying off 100% of the time

  • Prepares layout

  • Maintains a clean work area free of tripping hazards and helps others to do the same daily

  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials

  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements

  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue

  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level

  • Erects framework for structures, can layout walls/forms using industry best practices

  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete

  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicant must be able to pass drug test and background check.

  • The position location is in Norfolk, Virginia

  • Two years of experience required

  • Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

  • Able to work well in a team environment

  • Can take and apply direction from supervisor

  • Workers must provide their own safety footwear

  • Workers must have reliable transportation, or be able to access jobsites in any location

  • Saturdays are required periodically as needed
