Library Systems & Services Branch Manager 3: Norco and Eastvale in Norco, California

The Branch Manager will oversee the day-to day-operations of dual library sites with approximately 10% travel time. The Branch Manager supports the LS&S mission, vision, and values through exceptional leadership and dedicated patron focus. This position is also responsible for ensuring operating procedures of a library branch are executed effectively and efficiently. The Branch Manager will lead a team of library professionals who are committed to creating a thriving library in the heart of their community. Effectively support and build a strong partnership with their local official(s) and managing the patron relationship.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support LS&S and RCLS's mission, vision, and values through exceptional leadership and dedicated patron focus.

  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Eastvale and Norco library branches including planning and prioritizing work, gathering and communicating information to staff, making decisions to ensure the proper functioning of the library, Reporting building and equipment-related issues promptly, and communicating with other library departments.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community groups and library users

  • Schedule branch staff to ensure appropriate coverage

  • Monitor and develop employee performance

  • Work closely with the Deputy Director and library leadership to plan, implement, and promote the library strategic plan.

  • Foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace and a positive teamwork-oriented environment.

  • Know, understand, and administer the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library

  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.

  • Have a basic understanding of California Labor Laws

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Qualifications:

  • MLIS preferred, BA/BS required.

  • Three years of supervisory experience is preferred

  • Three years of progressively responsible library managerial experience and/or administrative functions of a library, or equivalent knowledge is preferred

  • Experience in a role that requires frequent interaction with customers, fulfilling the requests of customers, and responsibility for addressing customer issues, questions, and suggestions is preferred

  • Experience analyzing and applying financial reports and library-related data (usage, demographics, trends, etc.) is preferred

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; able to communicate well with people of all ages, demographics, ethnic backgrounds, and ability levels

  • Strong professional ethics

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong technology skills with the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of computer equipment/programs, digital devices, e-resources, and new technologies

  • Demonstrated time management skills

  • Ability to function under flexible and changing conditions, with the ability to problem solve and diffuse tense situations

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.

  • Occasionally lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, books, and other materials.
