Thorlabs Electronics Technician II in Newton, New Jersey
The position conducts, maintains, tests and repairs electrical/electronic, mechanical systems and components. The position applies knowledge of electrical/electronics and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. The electronics technician provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: Tests new products, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical/electronic equipment, including programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, laser sources, drives, gages and test equipment.Advises and trains technicians and assemblers of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.Maintains company-required performance and test reports for identified equipment.Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Physical Activities:The employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. As a result, they should have a steady hand and good hand-eye coordination. Work may be sedentary, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally. Employees may come in contact with but not limited to acetone and epoxy, and their work cell areas may be noisy at times. RequirementsQualificationsExperience:· Minimum 10 years of troubleshooting electronic systems experience.· Experience in Soldering Required.· Using schematics, demonstrate the ability to identify components and explain basic electronic theory of circuits. Education:Formal electronics training from technical school, Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, and/or two-year degree. Specialized Knowledge and Skills:Expertise with electronics troubleshooting equipment such as DMM, oscilloscope, frequency generator, spectrum analyzer, etc. or comparable electronics experience.Expertise soldering of SMD (surface-mounted device) and thru-hole components and/or wiring.Use of hand measuring tools such as calipers, height gauges, and micrometers.Strong attention to detailDemonstrated ability to work well in a group atmosphere and comply with high quality standards.Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.Basic mathematic skills are required.Proficiency in basic computer use (MS Office) and communication toolsThorlabs values its diverse environment and is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
