McLaughlin Research Corporation DESIGN ENGINEER III - GM in Newport, Rhode Island

This position supports NUWC Division Newport Code 102 Infrastructure Division and Code 1021 Facilities Branch with technical services in support of new projects initiated by Center Management and product line code work requests. This includes infrastructure development through implementation of MILCON and MINCON projects, support services for the design and engineering program for new and altered facilities and equipment installations, physical plant configuration management, energy awareness programs and initiatives, space planning and parking allocation, financial support for Code 102s budget program and support for the Maintenance and Operations, Weight Handing Equipment and Material Handling Equipment programs.

Duties:

  • Design Engineers develop and compare alternative layouts or designs, which utilize equipment of various kinds and capabilities in diverse physical arrangements.
  • This may involve consideration of structural, mechanical, and hydraulic features.
  • Examples of tasks for Design Engineers include, working on preliminary designs and specifications and evaluating the numerous and frequent change in design and performance which affect the assigned equipment prior to and during production.
  • Other tasks include, reviewing new approaches to circuitry and power distribution or incorporation of automatic self-test methods in equipment design.

  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance required; current clearance a plus.
  • The individual should be goal-oriented and have a strong work ethic.
  • The ability to multi-task and work in a team environment is essential.
  • Bachelor's level degree in an Engineering discipline or Industrial Design.
  • 7 years of professional experience in mechanical, structural or electrical/electronic design.
