Amentum Sr. Cyber Security Engineer in Newport News, Virginia
This position is not currently funded and is contingent upon the award of a new contract to Amentum. At this time, Amentum is seeking candidates to fulfill contingent roles. The expected award timeframe is Summer 2024.
The Senior Cyber Security Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to protect computer systems, networks, and other digital assets from malicious attacks. They commonly work with a team of IT professionals to design and implement new security measures or update existing ones. The Senior Cyber Security Engineer may also be tasked with analyzing current security protocols to identify weaknesses or vulnerabilities that could be exploited by hackers. This analysis often leads to the development of new security measures designed to patch these holes and keep sensitive data safe.
Responsibilities may include:
Designing and implementing security measures based on business needs and industry best practices
Monitoring networks for potential threats using security tools such as firewalls and antivirus software
Creating security policies, procedures, and plans to safeguard data and systems from cyber attacks
Performing risk assessments to identify potential security threats in an organization’s computing environment
Analyzing the impact of emerging technologies on existing security systems and identifying potential risks
Providing recommendations on new security measures to strengthen existing security systems
Conducting security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities in computer networks and applications
Installing and troubleshooting new security systems such as firewalls or anti-virus software
Conducting a forensic analysis of cyber-attacks to determine the source of the attack and how to prevent similar attacks in the future
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of job-related experience, or equivalent
Must have an active secret US government clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance.
