Serco Shipboard AIT Structural Supervisor (Newport News, VA) in Newport News, Virginia

Position Description

Serco is looking for a Shipboard AIT Structural Supervisor to join a high-profile and challenging project supporting our US Navy installation program located in the beautiful surroundings of Newport News, VA.Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact toward our military defense by discovering your new role supporting this critical mission!

The Shipboard AIT Structural Supervisor will support the Serco Production Management Team by providing management of a structural labor force to achieve structural production goals as well as physically perform welding efforts to support surge conditions if/as they arise.

In this role, you will:

  • Supervise the documentation and upkeep of Quality Assurance (QA) workbooks.

  • Provide daily leadership and supervision of structural personnel for removal, fabrication, and installation of equipment and foundations in support of ship maritime systems installations.

  • Ensure strict compliance with shipboard drawings, technical guidance, and QA inspection of installed systems.

  • Implement shipyard operating and safety rules.

  • Read and interpret Shipboard Installation Drawings (SIDs).

  • Lead teams tasked with removing and installing maritime equipment and structural components.

  • Knowledge and understanding of WAF/Tag-Out guidelines, hot work requirements, and professional standards for structural component installation.

  • Identify welding gear requirements to include welding consumables for multiple tasks.

  • Maintain inventory and accountability of installation materials, tools, and test equipment as directed.

  • Lead teams of structural trades to include Mechanics, Welders, Ship-fitters, Pipe-fitters, Subcontractors, and temp labor.

  • Submit daily muster reports and enforce time-sheet policy.

  • Make recommendations for Conditions Found Reports (CFRs) and Liaison Action Reports (LARs).

  • Reports to Project Specialist and/or Project/Program Manager.

  • Maintain various welding qualifications for surge requirements as necessary. Uses a variety of arc, brazer, and gas welding equipment.

  • Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weld-able material by applying appropriate welding techniques.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

  • A High School Diploma or GED

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience

  • Be able to obtain gain access to HII shipyards and government installations (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening

  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Office to develop reports and update schedules

  • Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Items

  • Must be able to effectively multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic production environment

  • Willing to work second shifts as needed and more than 40 hours work weeks.

  • Be available and willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • An active Secret Clearance

  • Structural team lead experience

  • Surface shipboard installation welding experience in the following is highly preferred;

  • FCAWW, SMAW including Stainless, GMAW including AL, GTAW including AL/STL, Plasma cutting, and Oxy Acetylene
