The Material Planner for Leica Biosystems is responsible for the daily management of RAW material inventory planning, to be in line with the Newcastle Facilities stocking policies (Plan for Every Part). Materials will need to be expedited accordingly from approved suppliers to ensure no impact to the Finished Goods Production schedule, leading to capacity and customer supply issues. Master data validity is critical to ensuring the above plans can be executed accurately and in a timely manner.

This position is part of the Planning department located in Newcastle Upon Tyne and will be a onsite role. At Leica Biosystems, our vision is to advance cancer diagnostics and improve lives.

You will be a part of the materials team and report to the Material Planning Supervisor responsible for the timely arrival of materials to supply our multiple internal manufacturing departments, in addition to supplying our European distribution centre. Creative problem-solving will be required to manage material expiry requirements, customer demand changes, and supply concerns.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Plan and purchase in line with agreed stocking levels to meet Production and internal department requirements and ensure all material requests are dealt with in a timely manner ensuring the relevant customer or requestor is informed of all relevant details.

  • Monitor Vendor On Time Delivery Performance with the Procurement team and action any issues.

  • Ensures items are ordered cost effectively from approved suppliers in line with required demand and specifications – where necessary work with Procurement to exploring alternative options.

  • Coordination and monitoring of all production, purchasing and call off orders.

  • Daily Management of RAW Planning model and use visual management to highlight issue to drive required actions both internally and with suppliers.

  • Assisting internal stakeholders with planning and material supply related enquiries.

  • Ensuring accurate SAP Master data across Newcastle site and supply planning for European distribution Centre.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Experience in a Material Supply Planning role

  • Proficient in using IT software packages, such as MS Excel (advanced level), MS Outlook

  • Demonstrate understanding of lean planning and ordering techniques and principles

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Material planning and management

  • External supplier management
