NYS Bridge Authority Security Technician Bridge (STB) in Newburgh, New York

Reporting to the Director of Command Center Operations, Safety and Security, the Security Technician Bridge officer is vigilant in maintaining situational awareness to ensure the physical security of NYSBA property and assets, as well as, the safety of the traveling public. This is accomplished through a variety of extensive patrols to assess the overall security, traffic and safety posture of the respective bridge facility. Furthermore, the Security Technician Bridge officer provides dedicated onsite incident response and management for all incidents and accidents occurring on NYSBA property. Additionally, the Security Technician Bridge officer conducts routine testing of NYSBA technologies and equipment to ensure continuous functionality. In this role the employee will perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of daily operations including but not limited to, obtaining shift coverage, answering and transferring calls, scheduling oversized vehicle crossings and maintain cleanliness of the facility.

Exemption Status: Part-Time Non Exempt position at the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge

Skills/ Requirements: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience which would include: High School Diploma or equivalent New York State Security Guard Registration Valid New York State Drivers License Three (3) years prior experience as a Security Guard or Public Safety Officer Additional technical education, training, or certification in emergency management, security and traffic incident management, and public safety Physical capabilities include, lifting and carrying thirty (30) pounds, standing without assistance for a minimum of two (2) hours, walking two (2) miles and exposure to weather conditions Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays Flexibility of work location - each employee is assigned to a primary bridge facility and a secondary bridge facility Critical thinking skills ability to make decisions during emergency incident response, and at times in stressful situations
