Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Payroll, the Senior Payroll System Analyst provides operational support of the day-to-day transactions and the strategic operations of the Payroll department. The incumbent must demonstrate a deep understanding of payroll functions, including but not limited to payroll processing and payroll taxation reporting. This is a hands-on role that will support the efforts of the payroll team by identifying and analyzing business requirements and processes. Assist with the development and implementation of a new ERP system. We are looking for an experienced candidate that thinks outside the box and is excited to work on challenging, innovative projects.
Essential Functions:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff & students from a variety of diverse backgrounds in support of a welcoming and inclusive environment. Excellent customer service skills to respond to the multiple levels of inquiries.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Prepare university-wide communication documentation in a variety of formats. Strong PowerPoint/presentation skills.
Hands-on configuration and implementation experience
In-depth understanding of federal taxes, multi-state taxes, pre-tax and post-tax deductions, and how they affect net pay. Set up and process employee mandatory/ voluntary deductions and taxes for the bi-weekly payroll.
Serve as the point of contact for inquiries related to payroll system capabilities. Perform routine office work, answer phone calls, and participate in special assignments/projects.
Work collaboratively with the internal team members, employees and department administrators. Partner with HR, Benefits, Budget, and General Accounting to identify and improve cross-functional processes such as employee PAFâs, payment vouchers, GL reconciliation, etc.
Assist the Director in fostering the collaboration of the cross-functional teams to design, develop, and promote end-to-end process improvements aligned with strategic initiatives, leveraging best practices.
Acts as Payroll Office liaison with government agencies and internal and external auditors on all Payroll related inquiries.
Ability to work independently as it relates to analyzing payroll data, report generation, tax reconciliations, and processing test scripts for data verification. Able to summarize, explain, and simplify complex data analyses and concepts.
Assist with the analysis and preparation of year-end W2's and related reporting requirements.
Full participation in the development of standard operating procedures for the implementation of a new ERP. Work closely with the Director and participate in department projects to continually review and optimize the business processes
Under the direction of the Director, gather the business requirements for the future state, assist in developing the well-documented functional designs and specifications, and assist in translating them into actionable configuration specifications for the implementation of the new ERP system.

Additional Functions:
Responsible for all components of the timely completion of the bi-weekly payroll, processing the payroll deductions such as union dues, garnishments, child-support, pension, etc.
Update the approver access queue form at the departmentâs request and coordinate with Human Resources to grant web time entry approver access.
Maintain and update the Unclaimed Property Report (Uncashed paychecks) on a monthly basis. Follow up on outstanding payroll checks with emails and phone calls.
Prepares, reconciles, and submits CA, NY, and PA, Unemployment Taxes (NJ) biweekly and quarterly.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5+ yearsâ experience working in Payroll with analyst duties.
Strong analytical skills, including advanced knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) and the ability to manipulate/interpret large amounts of data.
Strong structured thinking and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to listen effectively and provide a clear/concise narrative of the work product.
Strong PowerPoint/presentation skills.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to change.
Able to produce reliable and relevant data.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, multi-tasking capabilities, and the ability to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Banner, Cognos, Monarch, Evisions, Intellecheck, and ADP Run, a plus.
Experience in transitioning to a new ERP system.
Experience with Windstar Tax Navigator or similar Non-Resident Alien Software experience, a plus. Review non-resident aliensâ supporting documentation of student employees along with Forms 8233 and Forms W-9.
At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
