Position Summary:

Supports the activities of the Center for Building Knowledge (CBK) at NJIT. Supports the Executive Director and other staff in the following activities: studies, technical assistance and training development; marketing CBK; developing proposals; liaising with government, foundation, and industry partners; and developing media materials. Serves as a member of the CBK team and collaborates and supports the work of the Executive Director and other directors on the CBK team, as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the conduct of studies, technical assistance and training projects funded through outside sources.

  • Serves as member of the CBK team. Collaborates with, and supports the work of, the CBK Executive Director and other program directors as required.

  • Helps write reports on architectural, building construction and operations topics, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability.

  • Develops instructional and other media resources in support of CBK projects.

  • Conducts analyses as needed in support of technical assistance programs.

  • Helps prepare presentations to government, industry and professional associations and sponsors as a method of marketing CBK for developing new funding sources/grant proposals, and for reporting DBK project findings.

  • Serves as liaison among collaborators within, and outside, New Jersey as needed.

Under a multi-year series of grants from the New Jersey Clean Energy Program, the Center has created and currently maintains an online learning center to provide stakeholders across New Jersey with up-to-date education and training on the state’s clean energy programs. The scope of services for the “Clean Energy Learning Center” includes the following activities: collect, analyze, and organize information; document best practices; conduct needs analyses; create guidelines and online courses; and develop and maintain a web-based online learning center.

CBK requires an individual with solid knowledge concerning building energy performance, sufficient to review and develop educational content in this topic area. The successful applicant will have a solid knowledge of how buildings are designed, built, and operated; understand the energy efficiency in buildings; and have some experience developing education content in this area. Ideally, the candidate will have significant experience with energy efficiency and sustainability in the build environment.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required. Architecture/Engineering/Planning Degree.

  • M.Arch/M.S. strongly preferred. Work experience in architectural/engineering/planning practice preferred.

  • Demonstrated strong writing skills. Demonstrated experience in research.

  • Must be energetic, creative and have an aptitude for research.

  • Knowledge of and experience with building science and sustainable design construction practices preferred.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
