Job Description:

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing data from AVM (Automated Vehicle Monitoring) to investigate quality issues in conjunction with the Material & Technical Support department that have been identified as new or emerging issues. Activities include:

  • Utilizing AVM reports and data, to target specific buses exhibiting a concern then arrange a visit to the garage to inspect the bus and or work with the garage mechanics to conduct testing.

  • Activities include but are not limited to, taking photos, obtaining measurements, collecting fault data from the bus, conducting testing, and overseeing specific diagnostic steps and repair processes as required to assist with the concern ID and resolution process.

  • Provide a comprehensive report to the AVM Manager along with relevant details collected during the visits.

  • Develop specific communications in support of fault findings which will assist in the diagnosis and or repair of problem buses.

  • Create monthly AVM quality reports by bus type showing the performance of each component category. Predict issues before they occur thus reducing road calls.

  • identify and target high occurrences faults with applicable garages and or OEM / supplier partners.

  • Develop new and or modify existing broadcast reports based on the requirements of the Bus Maintenance Group.

  • Create ad-hoc reports based on requests from the Bus Maintenance Group in support of investigative activities.

  • Work in conjunction with the Electronics System Support (ESS) Team to provide them with performance reports for the componentry they are responsible for supporting.

  • Work in conjunction with the Material & Technical Support Dept. and Maintenance Training teams to develop targeted communications based upon AVM data on hard-to-diagnose issues.

  • Provide support for the monthly warranty meeting by providing AVM quality metrics.

  • Assist with the monitoring and reporting of new bus models and or new technologies introduced such as Battery Electric Buses.

  • Work with garage superintendents & garage locations to raise awareness of quality issues at specific garages that need to be addressed.

  • Assist the Material and Technical Support Department in the development of maintenance procedures, bulletins, MSOP's, and other technical communication pieces based on data analysis activity.

  • Monitor buses that are not regularly connecting to the garage Wi-Fi / and uploading data. Provide a listing of these buses to the ESS Team for review and action. Follow-up to ensure action is taken.

  • Monitor the successful updating of the bus fleet any time a new data dictionary is released. Work with ESSTeam to address any issue encountered.

  • Work in combination with the Material & Technical Support Team to assist in the completion of new maintenance procedures, bulletins, job aids, technical communication, parts technical issues and all other activities as directed by the AVM / Telematics Manager.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field from a US Department of Education accredited college or university and five (5) years of vehicle maintenance experience

OR

  • Completion of an ACCSC (Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges) technical training program trade school in Automotive, diesel, or Heavy-Duty Vehicle Repair and Maintenance and seven years (7) of additional applied experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Project management, organization & time management skills

  • Use and understanding of bus maintenance manuals and electrical schematics.

  • Technical writing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze, resolve and communicated technical findings / results.

  • Knowledge of the operational needs of the garages and expectations to service & repair buses.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access

  • Ability to rationalize the data into actionable tasks.

  • Proficient in the use of specialized tools and equipment as well as possess a clear understanding of diagnostic routines and theory.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Required to successfully complete training in High Voltage (HV) Safety, having taken the basic and advanced level Learning Management System (LMS) High Voltage (HV) safety courses.

Working Environment:

  • Primarily office environment, off-site visits occasionally

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, light lifting, bending
