Job Description:

Summary:

Primarily responsible for assisting in the support of remote networking solutions and optimizations of existing network infrastructures. Provides high-level support for the daily operations of all NJ TRANSIT network infrastructure, including troubleshooting and maintenance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Configures and supports routers and network devices, switches, route switch modules, inclusive of multi-site common subnet services. Resolves networking issues on Cisco routers, switches and wireless access points, as well as WAN circuits.

  • Develops solutions and tools for redundancy, including Cisco (or other) switches, routers and firewalls. Troubleshoots network performance issues. Analyzes network traffic using Sniffer appliances and software, Cisco NW management programs, inclusive of RMON2 captures.

  • Responsible for the functional design, and implementation of EIGRP & BGP protocols and deployment criteria for the network.

  • Assists other Information Services departments in NW impacts of a Windows 2003/XP LAN/WAN network, including layer four applications analysis, planning and design.

  • Functions as a technical leader interfacing with engineering, architect and design firms and/or contractors for the implementation of the physical network plant, inclusive of RDP/MDF, IDF and distribution points.

  • Responsible for maintaining and tracking hardware and software licensing, upgrade status and warranties.

  • Assists Help Desk Support in providing technical support and resolution/guidance to end-users.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related area, or equivalent, and six (6) years of experience working in a medium to large size Cisco network.

  • Degree may be substituted by 5 years of related work experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of configurations such as VLAN’s, Multicasting, local inter-site redundancy is required. Knowledge of LAN/WAN configuration required.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve networking issues on Cisco routers, switched and wireless access points, as well as WAN circuits.

  • Comprehensive understanding of remote access technologies inclusive of dial access, broadband, public wifi, 3G, SSL, VPN and related concerns such as authentication, policy enforcement, anti-virus/spyware, personal firewalls and reporting.

  • Strong background in multiple component technologies Nortel, Juniper, and legacy hardware and technologies. Protocols including Cisco IOS EIGRP, OSPF and BGP4 routing protocol, load balancing, IP, Multicast, SNMP, DWDM.

  • Experience working in a support function with Firewalls, ACL’s, Access Points and AAA, ACS, Server and system/network administration, troubleshooting and connectivity is also required.
