Job Overview:

The Children s Hospital of New Jersey provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pediatric services that include a pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric emergency department, Valerie Fund Children s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, and a neonatal ICU with New Jersey s only ECMO unit,The pediatric clinical pharmacist provides collaborative pharmaceutical care to the Children s Hospital of New Jersey NICU, PICU, and pediatric hematology/oncology patients through clinical services, research, and teaching.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Qualified candidates must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy

  • Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency in general practice and PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency

  • Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency in general pediatric practice

  • Candidates should also be self-motivated, have good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and possess or be eligible for licensure in New Jersey State.

Preferred:

Certifications and Licenses Required (if applicable):

  • Board certification in pharmacotherapy or pediatrics,

  • Experience and leadership in NICU, PICU, general pediatrics and/or pediatric hematology/oncology

Essential Functions:

  • The overall job responsibilities of this position are to provide pharmaceutical care to the Children s Hospital of New Jersey patients, perform clinical interventions, conduct cost-effective care analysis, teach, and provide pharmacy representation on the Medical Center s committees,

  • The following activities are components of the position to assist in meeting the major job responsibilities:

  • Participates in patient care rounds with various pediatric teams and provides clinical interventions in a collaborative environment,

  • Provides cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients by conducting direct patient care activities,

  • Participates as an active member of various pediatric committees as well as other general hospital committees such as Pharmacy & Therapeutics, Medication Safety, and Medication Management,

  • Serves as a primary preceptor for students and for the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program and participates in the overall teaching and mentorship of pharmacy residents to aid in ensuring successful completion of all graduation requirements as set forth by policy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists,

  • Develops and conducts medication use evaluations as needed and report results to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee to promote process changes and optimize medication utilization,

  • Monitors high risk medications and medications requiring pharmacokinetic monitoring and follow up with medical staff to address medication management issues,

  • Serves as a pediatric drug information resource to all disciplines and provides lectures and other educational materials on pertinent pediatric clinical topics to health care professional such as nursing, medical residents and the pharmacy department staff

  • Provides support to the staff of the decentralized pediatric pharmacy satellite
