Description

Responsibilities : Responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of all types of machinery and equipment, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, bearings, belts and chains, coupling alignment, gear boxes and bench work. Will operate machines such as grinders, drill presses, saws, and other miscellaneous machines. Responsible for altering and repairing fixtures and tools, sharpening tools, and transporting materials, tools, equipment and supplies to work sites either by hand, hand truck, or heavy- motorized truck.

Minimum Requirements

Education/License: High School/Vocational School Diploma or equivalency certificate and a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.

Experience: Minimum two (2) years’ experience in general maintenance.

Requirements: Must be available for emergencies and job assignments on a 24-hour basis. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position and carry out oral and written instructions. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and representatives. Must demonstrate the ability to learn and retain technical information. Basic knowledge of the standard tools, methods, practices and safety precautions involved in the particular function assigned.

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself or others is maintained. Perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy .
