In the role of Transit Senior Structural Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.

  • Assist in leading a team of structural designers in technical designs and efficient solutions.

  • Write/edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations.

  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project.

  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various groups for code and agency compliance.

  • Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at a project site in conjunction with Project Manager and other disciplines.

  • Is responsible to coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule and within budget.

  • Coordinates and assists, with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders and is responsible to incorporate agreed upon changes into the project documents.

  • Ability to freely access all points of a project/construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments to perform inspections when required.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

    • Position requires a BS in Structural Engineering or closely related Engineering field
    • 10 years of experience as a structural engineer
    • Professional Engineering license is required.
    • Other requirements include good oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to read and understand a Request for Proposal (RFP) and develop a technical approach and cost proposal.
    • Will attend client meetings and must have the ability to present a design approach for technical discussion.
    • The position would require the desire and ability to mentor junior staff and lead other technical staff in completion of design tasks.
    • Knowledge of Building Codes (NYS, NYC, International Building Code) as well as Transit Design Standards are required.
    • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
    • Proficiency in 3D analytical modeling (RAM Elements, Staad Pro, RAM Structures, RISA 3D) is required.
    • MicroStation and AutoCAD experience required.
    • Strong work ethic and willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • REVIT experience would be strongly preferred.
  • Candidates who reside locally in the NY/NJ area are preferred.
  • 10 years experience in design of underground and above ground transit stations and facilities.
  • Candidates with more than 10 year's experience and or a Masters in Structural Engineering are preferred.
