Position Summary

The Human Immune Monitoring Core (HIMC) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking a highly motivated and talented technician to join our team. The HIMC is an innovation-oriented high-tech service center with state-of-the-art instrumentation for advanced immunology studies. Technologies include CyTOF (high-parametric cytometry by time-of-flight), multiplexed tissue imaging (Vectra and CyCIF), multi-modal single-cell sequencing and immune profiling (10x Genomics), and other platforms. We collaborate closely with renowned scientists and physicians across multiple departments at CUIMC spanning research in cancers, cancer therapy, immunology, autoimmunity, transplantation, inflammation, infectious diseases, neuroscience, aging, and various aspects of technology development.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced cytometry and imaging instruments; preparation of samples and reagents; and assistance in assay development and optimization.

  • Operate and maintain the CyTOF, Vectra, and other next-gen cytometry, imaging, and sequencing instruments.
  • Prepare and manage reagents. Perform reagent validation, titration, and QC. Prepare samples and slides for analysis. Prepare sequencing libraries.
  • Maintain a detailed, up-to-date, and accurate record of samples, reagents, and instrument tuning, and QC. Maintain and organize the inventory. Place orders. Prepare service bills.
  • Perform routine data processing and data QC tasks and assist with data analysis.
  • Assist in the development of new assays, methods, and reagents.
  • Contribute to building a culture that embraces scientific excellence, integrity, efficiency, teamwork, and continuous learning and improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, math, computer sciences, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with cytometry or tissue imaging is preferred but not required, as training will be provided; however, ideal candidates will be quick learners and comfortable with new technologies, and have excellent hands-on and organizational skills.
  • One year of related experience preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Familiarity and excellent skills with PCR and sterile culture techniques.
  • Attention to detail and quality.
  • Skills for problem identification and troubleshooting.
  • Sense of ownership for the samples handled and tasks assigned.
  • Skills for effective and timely communication with users and colleagues.
  • A minimum of a 2-year commitment.
