The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

A position is available for a highly motivated individual as a Research Technician B in the Owusu-Ansah lab in the Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Our laboratory studies how mitochondrial respiratory complexes are assembled using fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) as a model system.

The candidate will work closely as part of a team, using transcriptomic, proteomic, genetic, molecular, and biochemical approaches and offers an excellent opportunity for training in a vigorous research setting.

Responsibilities

  • Set up genetic crosses between fly strains under the supervision of other senior lab personnel.
  • Perform various experiments including blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, silver staining of native gels, Western blots, various microplate assays to probe mitochondrial function, etc.
  • Record and track experimental results accurately.
  • Prepare various solutions for the lab.
  • Assist with ordering and maintenance of an inventory of lab supplies.
  • Assist with general fly husbandry.

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry or closely related field, or equivalent in combined education, training and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and interest in genetics, Drosophila biology, microscopy, and biochemical or molecular approaches is preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must have understanding in fundamental concepts in biological sciences
