Citigroup SVP - Real Estate Risk - Affordable Housing in New York, New York

Real Estate Senior Risk Manager to support Citi Community Capital (CCC), the community lending and investment arm of Citi. CCC works with for-profit and non-profit developers, as well as state and local government agencies on both straightforward and highly structured transactions including construction and term financing, and equity investments. The projects financed serve low-to-moderate income families and individuals, as well as the homeless, seniors, and those with disabilities. They may also include workforce housing or market rate units and other commercial uses. Risk Manager will assist in the oversight of the risks taken in connection with these activities including new originations, portfolio monitoring and problem recognition. This position requires a keen interest in both real estate and capital markets, as well as affordable housing and community development. Candidate to have developed effective communication and diplomacy skills in order to guide, influence and convince others.


  • Analyze and identify risks on new transactions, and review and challenge decisions on loan approval (or bond purchase), structure and risk rating

  • Use strong analytical skills to analysis provided by the business in credit approval memos, and effectively communicate feedback both in writing and in oral presentations

  • Monitor and review exposures related to portfolio while ensuring compliance with credit and equity policies

  • Participate in customer calls, attend bank/customer/site meetings and assist in the development and implementation of appropriate client account strategies

  • Identify and analyze situations that create risk and legal liability for Citi in the remedial management of obligors/relationships with emphasis on early problem recognition and risk mitigation plans (reviewing classified credit reports, participating in classified reviews, etc.)

  • Contribute to the preparation of portfolio reviews, product programs and other reporting tasks

  • Participate in the Fundamental Credit Risk and Review process and other audits and regulatory reviews

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.


  • 10+ years previous risk or related experience required

  • Candidate should possess strong analytical skills and an ability to communicate both in writing and in oral presentations. Computer, analytical and quantitative skills with ability to perform credit analysis. Proficiency in MS Word and Excel. Excellent attention to detail.

  • MBA in Accounting or Finance, a plus.


Bachelor’s/University degree.
