Job Description

Supervisor of Mechanics Level 2 duties include, but are not limited to, the responsibility for the over sight and control of the work quality, employee performance, and production level within area of responsibility.

*Administratively assigned to a Command inclusive of its satellite locations (i.e. Support Services, Field Operations, VAWD, C.R.S., Manhattan Borough Repair Shop, Cioffe Borough Repair Shop, Queens Borough Repair Shop, Richmond Borough Repair Shop). Assignment may include assignments deemed necessary by Support Services to achieve Department goals or cover temporary vacancies as they exist.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  1. Reports directly to the Deputy Director of Field Operations or Director of Support Services.

  2. Directs all maintenance, repair, and other functions of various operational segments of motor equipment maintenance. Directs extensive special projects, such as upgrades and/or refurbishments.

  3. Responsible for budgeting and scheduling for area managed.

  4. Ensures and is responsible for the correct and complete performance of all assigned duties and tasks of subordinates within area of responsibility.

  5. In addition, to overall supervision, provides supervisors within area of responsibility with guidelines, priorities, and information required to meet the Bureau’s objectives.

  6. Continuously reviews and assess workload and trends as they pertain to Support Service’s need and daily status (i.e. equipment outages). Ensures that reports, memos, and databases, used to monitor status of operation are accurate and produced in a timely manner.

  7. Coordinates complex operational programs with B.M.E. divisions, B.C.C., S.W.M., B.B.M., and other major organizational units as necessary.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  1. Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an Auto Machinist, Auto

Mechanic, Auto Mechanic (Diesel), Electrician (Automobile) or Machinist, two

years of which must have been at a supervisory level; or

  1. At least five years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school, or relevant education in an accredited college, to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational high school. One year of acceptable experience will be credited for each 30 semester credits in college. However, all candidates must have the two years of supervisory experience described in "1" above.

License Requirements

Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment. For appointment to certain positions a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions may be required. The Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions must be maintained for the duration of employment.
