Under the direction of the Vice President for Student Affairs or designee, the Student Wellness and Health Services Manager will promote student health and wellness through education, advocacy, and outreach to the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) students.

This person will:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Health Services department, including the coordination of staffing, scheduling, and operational activities of office.

  • Supervises and directs professional nursing and/or non-nursing staff.

  • Support the professional nursing staff to ensure compliance with City, State and Federal laws and regulations campus and university policies, and protocols regarding the necessary required medical examinations, certifications, and vaccinations, as required by law, for their program of study and any other school-related activity.

  • Spearhead student success initiatives through health and wellness workshops in conjunction with campus partners such as Athletics, Counseling, and the Advocacy and Resource Center to strengthen and complement students' educational growth with comprehensive health and wellness support.

  • Take a lead role in developing and implementing with other campus, University, and external resources for health and wellness campus-wide programs, including, but not limited to, Awareness Months, Health Fairs, and Blood Drives.

  • Conduct assessments and need analysis relative to the wellness needs of students.

  • Oversee department website and produce written materials to promote student wellness-related activities.

  • Support the Cohort Experience team to ensure every student benefits from a cohort experience.

  • Participate in special initiatives and projects for the Division of Student Affairs

  • Assist with and participate in major college-wide events such as commencement, orientation, registration, Honors Convocation, and various campus committees.

  • Participate in campus-wide retention and persistence outreach and activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and six years related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master s degree in higher education administration, student personnel administration, Health Education, Counseling, or related field preferred.

  • At least four (4) years of professional experience in higher education or health-related agencies is preferred.

  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience of professional staff is preferred.

  • Successful history of establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with students, faculty and staff, parents, system-wide colleagues, and community partners in the implementation of programs for a diverse student population.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with attention to detail and proven leadership.

  • Be a creative, dynamic individual with demonstrated examples of balanced and superior judgment, who can work independently and under general supervision to provide courteous and accurate customer service to students, visitors, and the campus community, both in-person and virtually.

  • Outstanding organizational, problem-solving, project management, analytical, and conflict-management skills, and the ability to balance numerous demands, evaluate competing priorities, and adjust planning as needed.

  • Demonstrated commitment, understanding, and sensitivity to the cultural, social, and educational needs of a diverse student body with diverse values and priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work on sensitive, confidential, and complicated issues with discretion.

  • Successful Grant writing and experience preferred.

  • Broad knowledge base of current higher education practice, theory and research, and their application.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media, and learning platforms.

  • Ability to work evening hours and weekends, as necessary.

  • Develops and implements health education and wellness programs and communications, including health education, wellness student workshops, group activities, and materials

  • Assesses student and campus health education and wellness needs and recommends targeted programs

  • Manages immunization/vaccination programs, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and policies

  • Collaborates with community resources to provide health-related events and outreach activities

  • Assesses and reports on all efforts, providing outcomes assessments and reviews of feedback from the campus community
