The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate II in New York, New York

The Sanghvi Lab in the Department of Medicine, Division of Preventive Medicine is looking for a motivated and ambitious Staff Associate II to join their team. The lab studies the role of overnutrition in oncogenic metabolism and shaping the tumor microenvironment. We utilize a variety of genetically engineered mouse models (lung and liver malignancies), functional genomics and proteomics, genome editing, and innovative screening platforms to study cancer biology. The ultimate goal is to identify new feasible and effective therapeutic opportunities. The Staff Associate II will oversee routine lab maintenance, ensure adequate lab supplies, train incoming lab members, and assist in everyday lab activities. The Staff Associate II will be solely responsible for maintaining our mouse colony as well as perform or assist in all animal experiments.

Responsibilities include managing daily lab activities and assisting postdoc and graduate students with their experiments, ordering lab supplies and managing lab equipment, maintaining mouse colony, contributing to planning and designing in vivo experiments, performing and/or supervising all animal experiments, and ensuring lab compliance with animal safety and IACUC protocols, performing routine in vitro and tissue culture procedures as well as complex molecular biology or immunological experiments, contributing new ideas and taking part in technology development as required, helping lab members with trouble-shooting and implementing alternative approaches and new ideas, Training incoming lab personnel, developing and managing lab safety protocols and guidelines, and assisting with grant and manuscript writing.


Bachelor's degree in a Biomedical field or related science and 4 years of related experience. A candidate well-versed with molecular biology, tissue culture techniques, and extensive experience in mouse handling and colony maintenance. Proficiency at performing complicated experiments in a timely manner. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Open to exploring and modifying new technologies and applying them to ongoing research.
