Description

The Chronicle team is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager who can creatively solve complex technical problems with their team. We build global data products that proactively surface insights to help plan, grow, and optimize Amazon’s business.

What you'll do day to day: You will be responsible for building and supporting a diverse team of software development engineers to solve a variety of technical opportunities. You will own the technology roadmap that will drive future products and features. This includes:

  • Recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and managing teams of software developers including their product and performance

  • Fostering career growth and building a strong team culture based on inclusion, innovation, and respect

  • Contributing to design, architecture, process, and development discussions

  • Advocating for the right outcomes with data and diplomacy

  • Helping develop long-term technology strategies

  • Applying systems level thinking and removing impediments in support of product and team delivery

What does success look like: A successful candidate is a team motivator, an experienced manager, and a passionate advocate for customers. You should be comfortable with ambiguity and be able to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. You should always be looking to invent and simplify, and earn trust with technical credibility and pragmatism. This includes:

  • Supporting and contributing to multiple simultaneous product development efforts and initiatives

  • Working closely with stakeholders across multiple organizations to understand their business and technical strategies

  • Examining existing software systems and processes to identify improvements to scalability, reliability and performance

  • Evaluating system performance, design, and metrics

  • Communicating complex product concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
