Description

Want to solve the hardest problems in e-commerce, including increasing selection and allowing customers to discover what they are looking for from billions of catalog items? Want to push the boundaries of distributed systems that are always available, and support thousands of invocations per second with single digit millisecond latency?

You and your team of engineers will be responsible for services that provide authoritative related product sets to power product discovery and shopping experiences on Amazon. These applications have a wide impact on buying experience for customers worldwide, so they can discover relevant products from billions of offerings across physical and digital products. You will work with and influence various AWS technologies, internal distributed platforms and Machine Learning pipelines. As a core platform team, you will seek opportunities to eliminate undifferentiated work across Amazon and have significant influence on the technical strategy and delivery of Amazon's key initiatives like large language models, expansion to new countries, new user experiences, new physical stores, new product lines and so on. Your breadth of impact will range from how sellers and vendors list their products with Amazon's catalog, to how products make it through Amazon's fulfillment centers and to how our shopping customers find and discover the products they love!

Key job responsibilities

  • Own vision, strategy planning, prioritization, driving architectural decisions, and end-to-end project delivery.

  • Identify, assess and mitigate risks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs balancing the business needs versus constraints.

  • Create, maintain and disseminate project information to stakeholders.

  • Manage careers of talented engineers by leading with empathy, making great hiring decisions, setting goals, providing feedback and managing performance.

  • Develop best practices to build and operate critical catalog platform services.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
