The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the co-Directors of the Community Engagement Core Resource (CECR), and Associate Director for Finance and Administration and Associate Director for Program Strategy and Communication, and working in tandem with the Vagelos College for Physician and Surgeons Office for Community Health, the candidate will work independently and pro-actively towards the development, implementation, management, dissemination, and enhancement of research services, facilities, and programs to support academic-community research partnerships and bi-directional community involvement in health research. The Senior Program Manager will be directly responsible for multiple programs with complex, overlapping schedules.

The Irving Institute is home to Columbia University's Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), launched by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2006 and has expanded to over 50 academic medical centers across the United States.

The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for day-to-day operations and management across all CECR activities, including Columbia Community Partnership for Health, its off-campus activity space.

The position is based in-person in Washington Heights, NYC. Occasional early morning, evening, and weekend hours are required. This is a grant-funded position.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic planning of partnerships, programs, projects, and Resource deliverables including the development and monitoring of timelines and guaranteeing that schedules are adhered to.
  • Identify, establish, and cultivate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in multi-cultural environments.
  • Facilitate bi-directional communication between community stakeholders, the Irving Institute, and Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) initiatives.
  • Oversee operations and enhance utilization and user experience of Columbia Community Partnership for Health.
  • Deploy community outreach, education, and engagement activities to increase awareness of and enrollment to CUIMC-sponsored research.
  • Help with presentation, report, grant, and manuscript preparation, as well as collection of data and outcomes from services and programs supported.
  • Partner with departments, centers and research offices across CUIMC to support infrastructure for community engaged research.
  • Collect, analyze, and report data, and collaborate with the Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (ECI) team on program evaluations.
  • Disseminate Resource contributions to clinical and translational research and science.
  • Oversee Resource communications including website content updates, maintenance of contact lists, development of marketing materials, and creation and delivery of presentations at meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Support research community with community aspects of grant proposals and research process.
  • Supervise staff and interns/volunteers and oversee personnel management documents including performance appraisals, vacation requests, and time off tracking.
  • Serve as a member of the larger Irving Institute Program Manager's team including working with other program managers and the Administrative Core of the Irving Institute to fully execute Irving Institute goals and mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 4 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates fluent in Spanish with experience in community/civic engagement, academic-community research partnerships, participatory research, health education, health literacy, and/or health communications with minoritized communities will be viewed as extremely competitive. Master's degree in related field preferred.

  • Demonstrated achievement in project management, organizational and follow-through skills, superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, close attention to detail, high degree of proficiency with computer software (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, project management tools), ability to quickly learn new programs, strong work ethic, ability to work independently, experience interacting with all levels of faculty, management and staff, ability to manage multiple programs and initiatives, and prior experience collaborating on grant and manuscript preparation and submission.
