As part of the naval architecture department, you will tackle new and evolving ship design and integration engineering challenges by applying naval architecture principles, techniques, calculations, procedures, and criteria. The projects executed within the team cover the full range of ship design phases from conceptual design through detail design, and post-delivery support. Your contributions will directly support the continued maturation of ship design solutions across all phases of design.

Primary Responsibilities

Gibbs & Cox Naval Architecture department is looking for an experienced hydrodynamics subject matter expert to support multiple programs in conducting advanced analysis using tools such as CFD, OrcaFlex, and advanced seakeeping software such as LAMP. This SME will support feasibility analysis and design efforts by applying naval architecture principles, techniques, calculations, procedures, and criteria.Key competencies include:

  • Hydrostatics (weight estimates, intact/ damage stability assessments)

  • Hydrodynamics (hull design, resistance predictions, seakeeping assessments)

  • Arrangements (general arrangements, compartment outfitting, aviation integration, topside integration)

  • Overall ship design integration

  • Requirements development

  • Executing naval architecture analyses.

  • Working with multi discipline teams to lead overall ship development and design integration.

  • Leading and successfully executing trade studies and requirements development

  • Preparing and presenting technical reports and engineering documentation

  • Mentoring of junior staff

  • Proactively interfacing with customers and other stakeholders to discuss design progress.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS or Advanced Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering

  • Minimum of 12 years experience, 15+ preferred

  • Position requires ability to obtain a secret clearance

  • Must have extensive knowledge of hydrodynamics design principles and ability to apply them to challenging design problems including hull and appendage optimization, multi-body seakeeping, and maneuvering analyses.

  • Must have experience with industry standard hydrodynamics tools for CFD and Seakeeping.

  • Must have experience with validation of simulation results.

  • Must have ability to work in standard naval architecture tools such as GHS, Rhino, AutoCAD, and Adobe or Bluebeam.

  • Must be able to communicate technical issues/solutions clearly through PPT, technical writing, and oral presentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering License for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

  • Experience with OrcaFlex, STAR-CCM+, and LAMP softwares preferred

  • Experience with MATLAB and/or VBA for data reduction of analysis results.

  • Experience with both ships and floating platforms.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
