Amazon Senior Design Engineer, Last Mile Engineering in New York, New York

Description

Last Mile Engineering is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented engineering project leader to lead initiative of developing and delivering next generation, world-class Last Mile transportation systems. Are you an innovative leader that wants to design the next generation of world-class delivery station and logistics systems across the globe? Do you want a high level of ownership in solving complex problems? Does the challenge of designing systems that leverage ground breaking automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies and robotics appeal to you? If so, we have the job for you!

We’re looking to add a handful of high-impact engineers to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations. Your projects will be a variety of innovative ideation concepts and template-based design solutions that have the potential to scale across the globe. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment.

Ability to travel 25% globally to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design and innovation efforts to develop optimal solutions for the delivery station network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.

• Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.

• Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.

• Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects

• Effective communication skills, ability to execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.

• Ability to travel 25% globally to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Operations

• 7+ years Experience with automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.

• 7+ years Experience with process design based on Lean Principles.

• 7+ years Experience in Capital project management

• 7+ years Experience with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.

• 7+ years Experience with ownership/management of engineering design projects

• 7+ years Experience using business/technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics (or equivalent related experience)

Experience in Operations experience

Experience in Logistics or Production business

Experience in innovation/Research & Development

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
