GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.

I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) supports the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 25 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications and identifies and develops new technologies that advance the University's core mission. CIS operates and maintains the University's network, the enterprise Data Center, and the CUNY Service Desk, manages the processes of safeguarding the University’s IT assets and maintains the security posture by operating the CUNY Security Operations Center (SOC). Additionally, CIS develops disaster recovery plans for business continuity and supports the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that integrates student administration, financial management, and human resources operations across CUNY’s 25 colleges. CIS provides strategic and operational IT leadership to all CUNY campuses.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Collaboration & Academic Technology, the Sr. DegreeWorks Administrator oversees the implementation, maintenance, and support of the University’s student advisement solution, Ellucian DegreeWorks. The role also involves ensuring a collaborative effort among various staff members, including those handling web development, network, and system services, system server administration (such as Microsoft Services, Linux, Citrix, Juniper, and Oracle), legacy system development, quality assurance and performance testing, and coordination with related staff across the University when necessary. The incumbent will manage and maintain the DegreeWorks systems, as well as cross-team collaborative efforts.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages and provides hands-on technical support for DegreeWorks and related systems, along with various University Enterprise deployment applications, including commercial and in-house developed CUNY applications; supports a range of web-based functionalities for students, faculty, and staff.

  • Manages all changes to applications and underlying infrastructure in accordance with CIS’s change management procedures.

  • Provides support for both new and existing student data reports.

  • Acts as a liaison to vendors offering system enhancements, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems and available products.

  • Manages the Application Support team by providing necessary resources, removing obstacles, setting priorities, and offering guidance to facilitate responsibilities.

  • Partners closely with database administrators, application developers, and subject matter experts to specify and support planned changes and enhancements to the University Enterprise application environment and other related components within the Central Information Services support structure.

  • Coordinates with testing and quality assurance staff to plan and execute migrations from testing to production environments when necessary.

  • Collaborates with CUNY’s Project Management Office to develop and monitor project plans, budgets, status reports, scope documents, and other project-related documentation.

  • Identifies and implements additional technologies to support administrative and faculty needs related to initiatives.

  • Performs special ad hoc requests, projects, initiatives as needed, and other related duties consistent with scope and intent of position, as assigned.

NOTES:

  1. Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

  2. An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred:

The ideal candidate should demonstrate or possess:

  • Proficiency with vendor software installation, application support services, and software utilization within a structured enterprise three-tiered WEB, application, and database environment

  • Knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Oracle SQL, Unix shell scripting (bash), and Java development

  • Familiarity with Middleware technologies such as Tomcat, WebSphere, and WebLogic

  • Experience with Crystal Report writing/programming

  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux and Microsoft Windows Server operating systems

  • Understanding of web services, including XML, REST, and SOAP protocols

  • Experience leading teams and projects, and communicating with internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong grasp of multi-tier architecture and cross-platform integrations

  • Ability to translate requirements into system design specifications throughout the software development lifecycle for both batch and web-based applications

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Capability to understand and address the needs of students, faculty, and staff

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

COMPENSATION

The salary is 109,560 .
