City Harvest is seeking a flexible and highly motivated Safety & Operations Associate to provide support within our (3) three major areas of our operations – transportation, warehouse, and supply chain production. Candidates will need to be versatile and flexible within this position as support within these three areas will interchange throughout the week to meet the needs of the departments. This position will be responsible for:
In Transportation – providing support to the Transportation Team by providing external on-site navigation assistance (spotting) to City Harvest trailers as they deliver in and around the City Harvest Warehouse, agencies, and donor sites. This will be done by using a small profile vehicle (van) to follow behind the tractor trailer(s) as they complete their route.
In Warehouse – providing support to the Warehouse Team with loading and offloading food donations from City Harvest trucks/trailers, and maneuvering pallets of donations within the City Harvest warehouse site.
In Supply Chain Production - providing support to the Supply Chain Production Team with packaging bulk items into individual meals on production line, rebuilding retail donation cases onto pallets, and gather produce items, removing damaged packaged to prepare for distribution to end user.
The Safety & Operations Associate should possess experience and knowledge within a transportation and warehousing environment, be able to work within various conditions and with multiple departments and levels of leadership.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Facilitate the flow of traffic via spotting City Harvest trucks/trailers in and around the City Harvest warehouse, agencies, and donor sites, ensuring trucks are maneuvered safely into correct parking.
Load and offload goods and raw materials from trucks/trailers at the City Harvest Warehouse
Maneuver and store pallets of goods and raw materials within the City Harvest warehouse site
Use of material handling equipment to fulfill orders. This includes but is not limited to electric pallet jacks, forklifts, and hand trucks.
Weigh and count items for distribution within the warehouse to ensure conformance to company standards
Help maintain a clean and organized warehouse work area. This includes sweeping and general housekeeping as needed
May be assigned facilities maintenance duties as needed
Break down of bulk items in smaller packaging on the production line
Rebuild retail donation cases onto pallets, and glean produce items, removing damaged packaged to prepare for distribution to end user
Be a strong team player and establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers and others; willingly assist co-workers when necessary
Other duties as assigned by managers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Transportation and warehousing experience
Strong listening and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of medium duty and heavy duty trucks a plus
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and routing or dispatching systems a plus
Bi-lingual in English/Spanish a plus
Education and Experience
High School Diploma
A valid driver’s license with clean driving abstract
Experience in handling food and beverages a plus
Prior experience in spotting trucks/trailers a plus
Warehouse experience in a distribution or fulfillment center a plus
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Must be able to regularly lift a minimum of 25 lbs. of weight, but no employee shall be required to lift, transport or otherwise handle materials or objects with a per unit weight greater than 50 pounds unless the Employer provides an appropriate lifting/transporting/handling device(s)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to frequently stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for an extended period of time
Capable of climbing in and out of a truck repeatedly
Required to physically operate material handling equipment
Schedule flexibility to include nights and weekends
Ability to read and write in English fluently and coherently
