The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Research Engineer ( Grant funded) yearly position is available immediately in the Laboratory for Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering directed by Dr. Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic. The laboratory seeks to hire a skilled and talented engineer to support the design and fabrication needs of the lab. The engineer will be responsible for collaborating with researchers on the design, fabrication, and use of custom devices and equipment that support the research mission of the lab. Strong technical expertise in the design of bioreactors for tissue engineering, computer-aided design, and manufacturing is required.

Responsibilities

  • (40% )Design and prototyping of platforms and bioreactors

  • (40%) Fabricating culture systems (whole organ and micro-scale) and molds

  • ( 10%) Equipment maintenance/calibration and repair

  • (10%) Organized and maintains fabrication facilities (bioreactor room, tool room, electronics)

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree and at least 2 years of related experience are required.

    • Experience designing, building, and troubleshooting mechanical parts and systems.
    • CAD, CAM, and CNC machining experience required.
    • Specifying and sourcing sensors for environmental analysis.
    • Designing circuitry and soldering components.
    • Programming electromechanical systems.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Quantitative skills are essential for this position.
    • Detail-oriented approach
    • Ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and computer skills.
    • Flexibility in terms of working hours in keeping with changing priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

    Preferred skills:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); SolidWorks (+Mastercam for SolidWorks); CNC Controls (Haas Control, Mach 3); FEA experience with fluidic systems. Programming (Arduino, Python)
