Release Train Engineer
Our Release Train Engineer is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART). The RTE clears the path of impediments, keeps teams focused on delivery of value as defined by Product Management and the prioritized program backlog, informs sequencing and delivery timelines based on train capacity, and keeps team members and business / technology leaders apprised of progress. The RTE keeps the train on the tracks and ensures successful delivery for the team members who are aligned to the work. Release Train Engineer is a key role. Guardian has established this role to drive measurable, consistent, predictable portfolio delivery to accelerate and optimize value-add solutions for Guardian’s customers. To drive these outcomes, Guardian is seeking a multidimensional Agile leader with the following qualifications.
You Will
Provide expertise, coaching, and mentoring of Agile practices.
Facilitate appropriate Agile events and ceremonies.
Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART using various tools, such as the Program Board, Kanban Boards and other information radiators. (An RTE’s activities support ART value delivery)
Coordinate activities and enable collaboration across all impacted teams / areas.
Aggregate PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency.
Work with Product Management, Product Owners, and other value stream stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment across trains.
Cross application/ department/ function release planning, coordination, and execution.
Track and report on progress of epic, feature, costs, benefits etc. using Agile tools, including tracking, and operating within the ART Budget.
Use Agile Dashboards and productivity metrics consistent with governance standards, including burndown, velocity, and predictability charts.
Identify internal and external dependencies that impact work; manage program level risks and dependencies across teams; provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks; escalate and remove impediments.
Keep the teams aligned on guiding vision, direction and scope as set by Product Manager.
Encourage Team Level and program level Continuous Integration and Communities of Practice around SAFe, Agile, Lean, and Quality Practices
Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.
Empower decision-making among team members. Assist teams to be self-organized and motivated in achieving sprint and PI goals.
Drive continuous, measured improvements to agile practices, business owner and practitioner experiences, contributing to the broader community of practices.
Ensure Agile governance standards, best practices and required reviews and Assessments are met.
Your Qualifications
You Have
Extensive knowledge of Agile Values, Principles, and mindset with at least 5 years’ experience acting in a Release Train Engineer and/or Agile Coach role.
Certified in Scaled Agile SAFe® Release Train Engineer (RTE) and Leading SAFe. SPC Certification is ideal but not required.
Strong coaching skills and ability to influence without control.
Proficiency using Confluence, JIRA, Clarity, and Jira Align.
Consumer centric focus with experience driving teams towards value.
An ability to manage team/train demand, capacity, and workload.
Demonstrated track record in effective servant leadership.
Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
Self-driven with strong ability to develops self and others to cultivate high performing teams
Your Location
- This position can be located in Hudson Yards NY, Holmdel NJ, or Bethlehem PA with the requirement to travel to NY / NJ at least once per week.

Salary Range
$111,840.00 - $207,700.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
