The Yahoo Mail engineering team provides opportunities to work on challenges that are as exciting as the Yahoo Mail product itself at the scale that only a handful of companies can match. With Yahoo being private again, it's a very exciting time to make a new history! We are transforming our business by migrating our technical stack to cloud (GCP).

The Mail Intelligence team in Yahoo Mail powers all the smart features which help our users manage their Business of Life. The team works with the latest ML/AI technologies, handles big data, builds systems which perform at large scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Tech Lead for projects involving many people (design, develop, ship and maintain)
  • Scope work and break it down into deliverables, milestones; Estimate and manage project timelines, risk
  • Set technical direction for the team; Identify and reduce technical debt proactively
  • Understand tradeoffs between technical, product, user, security, legal and develop solutions based on them
  • Provide technical advice on projects involving multiple teams
  • Responsible for quality of the team delivery and ensuring knowledge is shared

  • 8 years Software development experience with 2 years experience as Lead Engineer
  • Working experience with cloud native application development in GCP using Data Flow, Apache Beam, PubSub, Spanner etc
  • Proficiency in Java and related technologies/frameworks, (e.g., Spring Boot, Hibernate, Maven/Gradle)
  • Expertise in distributed software systems such as stream/batch processing, highly scalable serving systems
  • Proven experience building software systems which are highly scalable and performant
  • Experience cross collaborating with other functions such as Production Engineering, DevOps, Front End, Product management, UX Design


Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people, geographically dispersed across the world
  • Passionate about and practical knowledge of working with Big data, AI/ML

The compensation for this position ranges from $143, 625.00 - $299, 375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives. Yahoo provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan, company holidays, vacation, sick time, parental leave and an employee assistance program.
