The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York

The Department of Radiology is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our department's active molecular imaging and therapy research program. Working closely with the Primary Principal Investigator, the individual will be responsible for coordinating preclinical and clinical research associated with nuclear medicine and molecular imaging.

Under general supervision plan, develop, modify, and implement previously developed and original experimental procedures in a research laboratory exercising independent judgment based upon specialized theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. Provide direction and guidance to other technicians and personnel in the laboratory. Order and inventory laboratory supplies. Manage several core machines, such as flow cytometer and cryostat, including regular maintenance/cleaning and use.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and help facilitate cutting-edge research. Our ideal candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently to ensure successful experiments and assays, data collection, and adherence to the approved study protocol. Research analysis and Statistics background would be beneficial. Funding is available for a three-year commitment.

Our research team is located in a newly renovated space at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in Washington Heights.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

1. Confer with principal investigator in the planning, developing, and implementation of clinical/research projects; develop control procedures for test standardization.

2. Be comfortable working safely with radioactive materials.

3. Be proficient and competent in performing animal experiments/surgeries. Must reliably be able to perform tail vein injections and oral gavage in mice.

4. Develop experimental techniques for specimen and tissue analyses utilized in complex laboratory procedures, including western blots, RT-PCR, flow cytometry, multiplex ELISA, autoradiography, immunofluorescence, mouse tumor models, radiotherapy administration, PET imaging, targeted therapy administration, animal dissection and preparation of samples, molecular cloning and generation of stable cell lines, and other molecular and cell biology assays.

5. Review scientific journals, abstracts, and other research literature to obtain or verify additional information used in the design and development of original procedures or techniques related to the research/clinical projects.

6. Prepare detailed reports on the results of experiments; discuss with principal investigator the interpretation of the results and collaborate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.

7. Supervise and coordinate the operation, training, and staffing of laboratory activities; maintain facilities and equipment supplies; develop and establish laboratory work procedures, methods, and policies; schedule and determine work priorities; interview lower-level technical applicants, recommend employee selection and related personnel actions.

8. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein, including maintenance of dedicated radioactive flow cytometer, maintenance of safety protocols, ordering supplies, monitoring mouse population/colony expansion, maintenance of cell lines.

Salary range is from $70,000 -$77,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. * MD, PhD, DSc or equivalent training and experience plus two (2) years of related experience, and/or previous clinical research experience required.

The ability to take initiative and work independently is required.

* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are a must.

* Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is needed.
