The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York

The Center for Radiological Research is seeking to expand our team to study the health hazards & antimicrobial efficacy of ultraviolet light. The new hire will join a diverse team of biologists, physicists, and engineers, and should be comfortable with working in a biomedical research environment. Applicants should have relevant experience in any of these research areas:

* Mammalian cell culture

* 3D tissue models of human skin and eyes

* Basic laboratory techniques including immunohistochemistry, PCR, UV inactivation of

microbes etc.

* Microbiology (bacteria, viruses)

* Photobiology and photochemistry

* UV health hazards including acute and chronic biological effects

* Animal models for disease transmission

* Computational models of radiation transport and fluid dynamics

* UV physics, spectroscopy, and dosimetry

* Aerosol generation, characterization, and testing

* Environmental air sampling


PhD or MD

This will be a team effort requiring excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Maintaining and sharing records with the team is expected, in addition to completing scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion. The primary work location will be at the Radiological Research Accelerator Facility at the Columbia University Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, NY. Occasional work at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center may be required.
