The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Sugahara Lab) in New York, New York

The Department of Surgery at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Division of GI/Endocrine Surgery. The individual will develop novel cancer therapies based on tumor targeting peptides. In particular, the individual will be trained in drug delivery to cancer using various peptides and studies related to biological and immunological functions of the peptides.

Responsibilities:

* perform experiments in molecular and cellular biology.

* mouse handling and related procedures.

* immunology, peptide chemistry, and phage display.

* discuss the results with the PI and other lab members.

* attend/present at seminars and conferences, and participate in various collaborations.

* continuously learn and acquire new knowledge and skills for successful execution of the projects.

* develop innovative ideas to promote his/her own professional career.

* apply for grants whenever appropriate mechanisms become available.

Additional responsibilities include academic research, (participation in clinical and/or basic research) in accordance with our compliance and excellence in quality care programs, to include active participation in the education of research fellows, residents and medical students. Responsibilities include participation in the academic and research missions of the University and the Department of Surgery.

We seek a highly motivated, meticulous, and organized individual who can develop and pursue his/her own innovative ideas, while working in collaboration with other lab members and outside collaborators.


* PhD

* Research experience in molecular/cell biology

* Proficient in mouse experiments

* Ability to perform basic biochemical, immunological, and histopathological experiments

* Research experience in immunology, peptide chemistry, and phage display preferred
