The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner will be working with an integrated interdisciplinary team across inpatient medical and emergency department pediatric settings providing psychiatric evaluations, crisis triage, stabilization, and medication management for children, adolescents and their families seen at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. Collaboration with other mental health providers such as social workers, psychologists, case managers and psychiatrists, as well as pediatric subspecialty teams would be integral in-patient care. This is a full-time, clinical position working in the pediatric psychiatry consultation liaison service. The Nurse Practitioner will have clinical privileges at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. This is a non-tenured track position. Academic appointment is commensurate with qualifications. Columbia University offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Provide diagnostic psychiatric evaluations for patients in the adult emergency department.
  • Provide psychopharmacologic and short-term psychotherapeutic treatments for a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Collaborate and meet with the multidisciplinary team to address quality care initiatives and length of stay.
  • Counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers on disease processes and care management.
  • Perform and document comprehensive medical and psychosocial health histories, examinations (document pertinent positive and negative findings), and initiate/maintain a problem/medication list.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for Nurse Practitioner practice within their respective scope of care and the delivery of safe, competent patient care.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience.
  • Current New York State NP and RN license.
  • Current NP Board Certification.
  • Current BLS and DEA certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Nursing (DNP preferred) with national board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Bilingual-Spanish speaking.
  • Flexibility, consultative skills, and active collaboration with other providers and team members.
  • Working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team with strong interpersonal and communication skills is important.
  • Previous work experience in medical settings providing psychopharmacology and combined psychotherapeutic treatment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong analytical abilities, and ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to manage a patient caseload in a fast paced and changing environment, and critical thinking skills are essential.

Other Requirements

  • Must successfully complete all online systems training requirements.
  • Experience using an electronic health record.
