Salary range: $81,780-$116,074) (Grade F/513)

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will manage staff and work as part of a team responsible for planning subway service for permanent operations, long-term temporary operations for capital work and maintenance, and unplanned service disruptions. The position is responsible for:

  • Developing service design and service frequency recommendations based on quantitative analysis of current and projected future passenger demand, operational factors, and current and projected infrastructure constraints.

  • Evaluating capital improvement proposals based on passenger demand, operational factors, and infrastructure requirements.

  • Preparing fleet plans and forecasts.

  • Preparing analyses and simulations evaluating current and proposed subway operations and proposed capital investments, such as CBTC signaling and infrastructure investments.

  • Supervising quantitative analyses of rail operations data (running times, frequency, reliability, etc.).

  • Providing data support, including planning for and oversight of field surveys.

  • Observing and reporting on service, including estimating train loads.

  • Coordinating the work of multiple groups within the agency to ensure smooth operational implementation and accurate public information and outreach.

  • Monitoring the impacts of the service plans and recommending and coordinating service adjustments as necessary.

    Education And Experience

    A baccalaureate degree in Transportation Management, Systems Analysis, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering and six (6) years of experience in transportation field, two (2) years of which must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity; or

    A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.

    Desired Skills

    The ideal candidate will have a combination of analytical, technical, planning, and communication skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written and analytical skills are required.

  • Proficiency in working with large datasets, spreadsheet analysis, and statistical analysis is required.

  • Proficiency with SQL or similar database analysis languages is desirable.

  • Experience and familiarity with transit planning practices and rail operations concepts is desirable.

  • Knowledge of the New York City subway system and NYC geography and neighborhoods is desirable.
