The Walt Disney Company Manager, Operations - VOD (ABC News) in New York, New York

ABC News is looking for a Manager to lead the VOD & OTT distribution team. This department edits and distributes video content from ABC News network broadcasts and ABC News Live for digital platforms and clients. The VOD & OTT team pivots between editing on Avid Media Composer to web tools for CMS publishing.

A successful candidate is driven, organized and results-oriented. This candidate must be eager to learn the operational workflows and systems the team utilizes to create, publish, and distribute a high volume of video assets. This role will work alongside senior and management staff to strategize, execute and oversee daily workflows for planned broadcasts and breaking news reports. Previous live news work experience, and managerial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations within the ABC News VOD and Distribution group.

  • This role must stay up to date on editorial programming plans, as well the technical workflows required to publish content.

  • Plan and delegate daily workflow tasks in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

  • Strong editorial sense for prioritizing developing and breaking news content.

  • Create and maintain procedural documentation and training material.

  • Identify innovative ways to help grow reach, improve existing workflows and systems.

  • Coordinate with several production departments for future programming planning.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and communication with support teams.

  • Scheduling of 60+ weekly shifts.

  • Coordinate staffing backfills for any sick calls or vacation requests among regularly scheduled shifts.

  • Onboard and contribute to training of new hires.

  • Flexibility to work during special event and breaking news coverage, particularly during the 2024 election cycle.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a news environment

  • Able to demonstrate strong knowledge of VOD & OTT distribution strategies

  • Familiarity with metadata implementation, VOD packaging and publishing

  • Familiarity with ABC News and ABC News Live programming

  • Familiarity with closed captioning formats and editing software

  • Experience implementing SEO strategies for on demand content

  • Experience using Microsoft Sharepoint, Microsoft Teams and Slack in a professional capacity

  • Experience scheduling teams. Knowledge of MediaPulse and/or Kronos is a plus

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively under pressure.

  • Avid Media Composer experience

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $94,800 to $130,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
