Safe Horizon Manager Foundation and Government Support in New York, New York

Summary: The Manager, Foundation and Government Support is a key member of Safe Horizon’s five-person Grants Team within the Development and Communications Department. The Manager will be experienced in handling all aspects of foundation proposal development and reporting, as well as researching funders and advising on funder engagement and stewardship strategies. This position will create a range of cultivation materials in support such as one pagers and newsletters. They will serve as relationship managers and/or upward manage funder relationships to senior staff. They will also coordinate government procurement processes from start to finish in collaboration with Program, Finance, Research and Evaluation and other departments.This position will specialize in a portfolio of specific Safe Horizon programs, thereby developing deep content expertise and close relationships with program colleagues. This is an exciting time to join the team, as Safe Horizon embarks on launching its next five-year strategic plan. Key focuses and new initiatives from the plan include deepening survivor leadership, advocacy and anti-racism across all areas. This position reports to the Associate Vice President, Foundation and Government Support.Responsibilities:Manages the foundation and government proposal processes from start to finish, acting as partner and project manager to agency departments through idea development, program planning, proposal, and budget stages;Writes, reviews, and edits draft copy and produces and submits final proposals and reports;Coordinates requests needed for proposals and reports, including updates and client stories from Program, program data from the Research and Evaluation Department, budgets and expenditure reports from the Finance Department, certifications from our General Counsel Office, and all other attachments;Cultivates relationships with existing and prospective donors through discussion, correspondence, gift acknowledgement, meetings, and tours of Safe Horizon facilities;Regularly researches and monitors federal, state, and local government funding sources for available solicitations and funding opportunities, identifying potential agency alignment and benefits;Identifies prospective private foundation donors for specific Safe Horizon programs, or general support, and researches whether and how their funding interests relate to Safe Horizon programs;Independently manages a grants calendar for their portfolio within Salesforce, ensuring that deadlines are met and all necessary follow up takes places to the overall donor cultivations/stewardship process;Stays abreast of industry trends, needs, innovations, and opportunities; develops a deep familiarity with the approach and impact of Safe Horizon and the broader victims’ services context.Performs other duties as assigned.Supervisory Reports: N/AInteracts with: Foundation donors and prospects; Executive, Senior,Program, Research and Evaluation, and Finance staffQualifications:Required Knowledge and Skills:Advanced, superior writing skills - the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to capture the purpose, importance, and impact of programs and projects with an emphasis on effective structure, grammar, succinctness, and alignment with foundations’ giving interests;Strong commitment to Safe Horizon agency values of client-centered practice, anti-racism, and family-centered programming;Working knowledge of Salesforce (or comparable donor database), Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and excellent research skills;Strong verbal, interpersonal and communications skills and attention to detail;Ability to work independently and under stress, manage a number of demanding and conflicting priorities in order to meet deadlines with well-crafted proposals and reports;Strong organization and relationship management skills;Background in social justice or human services preferred; andBachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.Required Experience:Minimum of two years of direct experience in grant writing, preferably from both public and private sources; Strong working knowledge of local and national foundation donors and funding trends;Experience with budget preparation and/or analysis - the ability to review budgets and ensure alignment with the funder’s interests and the proposal narrative;Experience working with high-level program staff and multiple departments.;Safe Horizon is committed to providing a reasonable accommodation to ensure individuals with disabilities can meet any physical demand requirement(s) of the position, or otherwise perform the corresponding task(s), where possible.
