Rockefeller University Laboratory Technician (PART-TIME POSITION) | Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development in New York, New York

Organization Overview

Adult stem cells reside in all tissues, where they replenish dying cells and repair wounds. Using mammalian skin as a model, the Robin Chemers Neustein Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development, led by Dr. Elaine Fuchs, studies the remarkable properties of skin stem cells, and how they know which tasks to perform and when. The lab explores how stem cells sense and communicate with other cells in their environment. Aiming at advancing therapeutics, she dissects how communication networks malfunction in inflammation, aging, and cancers.

Overview

The Laboratory Technician will serve as a laboratory helper as a part of highly talented team of molecular, cell, and developmental biologists seeking an understanding of the properties of adult skin stem cells and how aberrations in their biology can lead to skin disorders, including cancers.

Responsibilities

General laboratory maintenance duties including:

  • Maintaining and organizing stock closet and cell culture room supplies

  • Delivering mail, reagents and equipment from receiving department and store room

  • Unpacking deliveries and entering all received items in receiving log-book

  • Autoclaving solutions

  • Preventive maintenance of -80C freezers (defrosting , removal of ice),

  • Cleaning equipment

  • Weekly changing CO2 and Liquid Nitrogen Tank

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Must be able to lift supplies that weigh up to 50 pounds

  • Must work well in a team

  • Well-organized with an attention to detail, and the ability follow instructions in carrying out routine tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in laboratory environment is desired

  • Must have willingness to handle chemical reagents (Liquid nitrogen and carbon dioxide)

This is a part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week.

The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

USD $23.35/Hr.

Compensation Range: Max

USD $25.27/Yr.
