Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Manager.The successful candidate will develop, maintain and oversee the labs infrastructure and operating procedures, act as a resource for all laboratory members and as a liaison to ensure laboratory requirements are met; and supervise the day-to-day lab operations of the Ganesan Lab, including, but not limited to working with colleagues on conducting experiments (up to 50% of the position, as needed), evaluating the feasibility of new protocols, training lab members in wet-lab techniques as necessary; prioritizing workflow.


The successful candidate will benefit from becoming an integral part of the growing and dynamic research team in a state-of-the-art facility, participating directly in labs research with a potential to conduct independent research projects under direct supervision, and exposure to a wide range of cutting-edge technologies and techniques. They will receive commensurate academic credit for these efforts including authorship on publications and the ability to attend scientific conferences, present to various audiences and gain exposure to experts across disciplines.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Orders, operates and maintains laboratory equipment and stocks of reagents, consumables and supplies in for individual lab members and common lab usage in a cost-effective manner.
    • Assists with budgeting and financial overviews, including documenting, compiling, and analyzing purchasing data and streamlining inventory and costs.
    • Serves as Environmental Health and Safety contact for the lab including managing protocols and procedures, coordinating inspections, attending relevant committee meetings, performing safety reports, updating and maintaining laboratory safety standards and procedures, organizing and overseeing lab safety training and occupational health compliance, and related as required.
    • Assign, coordinate, and supervise lab responsibilities for each individual lab.
    • Develops and maintains laboratorys standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Monitors team dynamics to ensure optimal laboratory performance.
    • Work with the relevant NYU Langone operations teams as the Ganesan lab liaison to:
      • Help facilitate communication within the group and the rest of the organization.
      • Recognize administrative challenges and promote effective decision-making and conflict resolution.
      • Facilitate the exchange of best practices and information
      • Provide laboratory orientations and set up space for new members.
      • Conduct analyses to identify resource gaps in laboratory operations and provide assistance in filling those gaps whenever possible.
    • As required, assists lab members and trains them in wet-lab techniques such as (but not limited to) mammalian tissue culture, FACS, genomic DNA extraction, RNA extraction, Western blotting, mycoplasma testing, molecular cloning, PCR, gene editing, next-generation sequencing protocols and mouse experiments.
    • Uses scientific knowledge and expertise to, when needed, learn experimental techniques, technologies and procedures as needed; and designs and coordinates related experiments, independently or by assisting other group members.
    • Actively participates in all team meetings and relevant facility meetings for experimental protocol planning and review.
    • Consults with literature and other scientific staff as needed to maintain high level of professional expertise.
    • Other related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:


To qualify you must have a BS/MS in life sciences or other relevant field, with 2+ years of experience in biological experimental research
Prior experience (2+ years) with laboratory management/operations
Expertise with molecular biology, sterile, and cell culture techniques; FACS; and the operation of standard lab equipment.
Experience in genomic techniques and next-generation sequencing protocols
Knowledge of computers and experience with databases required.
Exceptional organizational, time management and critical thinking skills, lab notebook practices and attention to detail are essential.
High level of initiative and the ability to work with little supervision.
Excellent conflict resolution skills

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.15 - $85,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
