Job Summary

The General Manager (GM) works with the DO and is responsible for leading daily operations. This position will be on the on-site client representative for Union Square Events and will be responsible for all faucets of the business, to include the Restaurant, Events and In-Room Dining. The GM is accountable for leading and improving staff experience, guest experience, and ensuring fiscal health of the business. This is located in a luxury hotel property.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Build a High-Performance Team

Build and maintain a culture of enlightened hospitality with excellent hiring practices, training, and work environment.

In conjunction with DO and Managers, hire and train FOH employees according to USE standards for hospitality and excellence.

Hold employees accountable for effectively completing specific job responsibilities according to our standards and practices, evaluating and/or following disciplinary procedure when necessary.

Conduct weekly management meetings to keep the management team informed of the direction of the business, upcoming events, and company-wide initiatives to ensure alignment with the USE bar program.

Create and Foster a Best-in-Class Guest Experience:

Lead Managers to ensure service and hospitality standards of Canoe Place Inn are defined, communicated and upheld.

Serve as an ambassador of Canoe Place Inn to guests, our partners, and the community at large.

Be a constant, engaging presence in the business and "on the floor" during service.

Work with all leaders to address guest feedback (positive or negative) in a way that strengthens guest relations and encourages deeper relationships with our guests.

Coach Managers in participating in staff lineups and motivate staff to attain the highest level of job performance.

Conduct regular tastings to ensure the team can use that knowledge to create a better guest experience.

Ensure all menu changes are executed according to established procedures with necessary training and communication.

Drive Financial Performance/Increase Profitability

Annually, create budgets with DO, Executive Chef, Beverage Director, and Controller for financial success.

Coordinate weekly financial overview with DO and Managers to enhance the team’s financial knowledge of the business, meet or beat budgeted Food and Labor costs, and discussing opportunities.

Lead managers to ensure all end-of-period reports, inventories and forecasts are completed accurately and on time.

Work with GMs of other USE businesses to find efficiencies and new opportunities.

Ensure all schedules are costed prior to posting and all posted schedules are within budgeted, approved targets.

Guide Managers in monitoring payroll and staff schedules on a weekly basis.

Operations

Work closely with DO, USE PR and Marketing departments to strategize outreach and visibility.

Actively look for new opportunities to promote Canoe Place Inn and reach the community at large.

Maintain and improve external recognition (Yelp, Facebook) for Canoe Place Inn

Lead the entire management team to comply with the DOH code while working closely with BOH management.

Leverage USE’s Facilities and Permitting team to ensure an "A" letter grade on all sanitary inspections.

Maintain and build strong, positive relationships with Trustees, Executive Staff, and Key Management

Personal Development:

Attend USE management training courses within the required timeline.

Respond to constructive feedback from others by showing improvement in performance.

Maintain key relationships with USE leaders, and Partnership Executives and Managers by showing a commitment to sharing best practices and learning from a family of professionals.
