Job Description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city.

DEP's Fleet Services Division oversees the purchase, use, maintenance and management of DEP vehicles, special equipment, and related services. Fleet Services also monitors compliance with NYC Fleet and Vision Zero mandates, fuel and E-ZPass rules, parking and traffic regulations, and driver safety initiatives. The dynamic Fleet Services team provides complete life cycle management (design / build, distribution / maintenance, and relinquishment) of approximately 5,000 pieces of equipment throughout the 5 boroughs and NYC’s unique watershed.

Reporting directly to the Director of Fleet Services, responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

o Utilize the Geotab database to create automated reports on vehicle utilization; create rules; enter and make updates to new drivers, vehicles and equipment.

o Utilize the Geotab database to report on disconnected devices and send notifications, schedule troubleshooting, and repair as needed.

o Utilize M5 FleetFocus to create customized reports; and to develop, coordinate, track, monitor monthly PM and MVI schedules and calendars.

o Coordinate maintenance, and repairs with service providers.

o Work closely with DCAS Fleet Management to prepare and input vehicle information database and Holman/ARI database.

o Coordinate with vendors on scheduling of recalls and distribute recall notifications appointments to staff.

o Inspect automotive parts, supplies and repairs to ensure adherence to purchase specifications, terms, conditions and related regulations.

o Inspect different types of vehicles and horticultural equipment, as well as automotive equipment, parts, and supplies necessary for their operation, maintenance and repair.

o Recommend acceptance, rejection or conditional acceptance of deliveries of vehicle automotive parts and supplies.

o Operate a motor vehicle to travel to DMV and other offices, garages.

o Assist with special projects as necessary

o Track, distribute violation notices and help resolve traffic violations. Update database.

o Help order, record and distribute, FOBs, chargepoint cards, Fuel cards and Fuel pins.

o Help promote compliance with Fleet rules and assist with: Defensive driving course compliance, authorized driver rules, ESS compliance, LENS monitoring.

Qualifications

  1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory full-time experience, purchasing or inspecting supplies, materials

and/or products such as: paints, linoleum, hose, sand, brick, wire, shades, hardware and tools; plumbing, electrical machine shop, building and cleaning

supplies; furnishings and furniture; lumber and wood related products; metals; equipment; foods, drugs, and chemicals; fuel; textiles; printing, stationery and

other sundry items. At least one year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity; or

  1. An associate degree from an accredited college, plus four years of satisfactory fulltime experience as described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or

  2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, plus two years of satisfactory full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or

  3. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to '1", "2" or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 45 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least two years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

License Requirement

A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
