Book of the Month Editorial Assistant in New York, New York

Summary:

BOTM is seeking an analytically-minded, detail-oriented book person to provide administrative and additional support to the Editorial Director, book selections, and other special projects. The ideal candidate is an exceptionally organized quick-thinker with a knack for problem-solving, data analysis, and juggling multiple projects at once. If you're passionate about promoting contemporary literature and learning more about the business side of the books industry in an entrepreneurial environment, this could be the great next job for you!

 

What you will be doing…

  • Prepare and proofread a variety of documents, including agendas, memos, contact directories, and documents for special projects  

  • Organize and analyze data and input into spreadsheets and charts for review

  • Create presentations in Powerpoint and Google Slides for internal and external meetings

  • Develop and maintain digital filing systems to serve as historical reference

  • Assist the Editorial Director in publisher and author relations, as well as other processes, including assisting with booking and scheduling guests for our Virtual Book Tour podcast

  • Read approximately 3 books a week and provide feedback on their potential for BOTM

     

    What you should have…

  • At least 1 year of full-time work experience  

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Ability to do math and conduct data analysis

  • Strong writing and proofreading skills, as well as excellent attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface comfortably with people at all levels

  • Great judgment, with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and care

  • Fast and avid reader with a deep knowledge of contemporary commercial fiction

  • Career-minded. BOTM is a growth-oriented company; this position is fast-paced and we are seeking a candidate who is looking to learn and rise over time.

     

    Salary Range: $62,400 - $70,000
