City of New York Director of Security in New York, New York

Job Description

The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for a Director of Security in its Investigation Bureau. In this position, with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, the Director is responsible for supervising and providing physical security, safety, and maintenance of order in the Office. Reporting to the Chief and Assistant Chief, the Director will oversee all security measures at DANY.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations and management of unit responsible for the safety and security of DANY’s employees, visitors, and the Office’s facilities and inventories.

  • Supervises, works with, approves weekly timesheets, and evaluates the performance of security staff. Prepares the unit's daily work schedule and post assignments. Directly manages supervisory staff in accordance with standing orders.

  • Participates in the formulation of the Office's security policies and procedures. Acts as principal adviser to the Office's executive management and program heads on security issues.

  • Develops and implements new security systems and methods as required.

  • Coordinates operations with the New York City Police Department and other law enforcement agencies as required. Works directly with the NYC Police Department in developing and implementing procedures concerning deputization, processing of arrests, warrants and other related matters.

  • Works on special projects and tasks as assigned.

Preferred Requirements/Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Must be able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment, detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.

  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies.

  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.

  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

  • This position requires operation of a motor vehicle.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours.

  • Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have served at least 1 year in their current position at the time of appointment and be in good standing. In addition, all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

  • Looking for candidates that can commit to one (1) year to the hiring unit.

  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

  • Monday-Friday, 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

Qualifications

  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in law enforcement, security management, or in a related field, with at least five (5) in a senior supervisory position. Former law enforcement officers with supervisory experience preferred.

  • Firearms qualification required.

  • As per NY Public Officers Law 2, 3-B, U.S. citizenship required.

  • Driver License Requirement: You must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
