The primary mission of the Consumer Insights Associate Director is to design and implement methodologies, analytical tools and deployment platforms for the Fine Fragrance Category in North America. You will fuel fragrance creation by identifying and connecting consumer needs with product development. As a consumer research expert, you will implement best in class research methods that provide a fundamental understanding of the fine fragrance market, consumers, benchmarks and fragrance submissions to anticipate and answer development and commercial needs. You will be part of an interdisciplinary North America-focused team that includes Marketers, Fragrance Evaluators, Perfumers and Account Leads, working together on a variety of beloved fragrance brands. You will also maintain a close, collaborative relationship with the Global Marketing Science team to maximize regional synergies and inform the local team.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic ideation, execution, analysis and communication of all consumer research for Fine Fragrance North America to win new business, optimize existing brand portfolios and drive category growth. Drive a consumer-centric mindset throughout the fragrance development process.

  • Deploy a range of quantitative (e.g. iterative product testing, benchmarking, concept testing, U&A studies, etc.) and qualitative methodologies (e.g. focus groups, ethnographies, in-depth empathy interviews, etc.) to explore, identify and validate consumer needs and olfactive preferences, managing all phases of the research process. You will act as a trusted research consultant for internal stakeholders and clients to identify and design the most appropriate research method to best answer their business objectives and questions, understanding the inherent advantages and limitations of any given approach.

  • Closely collaborate with the global Marketing Science Team on fundamental studies and platform development, providing on-the-ground, local support in project implementation, as well as feeding strategic priorities.

  • Strong experience regularly interacting, presenting and sharing thought leadership with clients; Role is heavily client-facing and requires confidence and expertise exploring the deeper need behind the ask.

  • Basic knowledge of sensory methods.

  • Manage the regional budget by collecting and monitoring account-specific and proactive needs, frequently updating the global budget platform.

    You bring:

  • Master's degree required in either Consumer/Market Research, Consumer Science, Market Research, Psychology or Analytics.

  • 5-10 years experience (for an Associate Director) or 10+ years of experience (for a Director) in market research, consumer insights and strategy, brand development, product development and innovation etc. on the supply side or client side that encompass all phases of the research process from inception (i.e., questionnaire/discussion guide design, sampling, supplier negotiation) to execution (i.e. fieldwork management) and communication (i.e. data analysis and presentation of results to key stakeholders).

  • Ease, enthusiasm and expertise conducting the minutia of research design and analysis, as well as big picture thinking that connects different data points into a coherent, compelling story for internal clients and high level clients

  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple ongoing projects and priorities

  • A self-starter and team player, you have a desire to be part of a highly creative team in a fast-paced, competitive and inspiring fragrance industry
