Job Description

Serves as a nursing practice expert in the care and management of the cardiothoracic surgical patient, teacher, and resource person in assisting nursing staff to meet patient care needs. Develops team member knowledge and skills in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit. Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care programs.

Job Responsibility

  • Demonstrates current advanced knowledge and clinical expertise in the assessment of patients.

  • Develops and utilizes strategic nursing interventions in response to complex health care problems.

  • Participates in evaluating and improving the quality of patient care, and utilizes interdisciplinary collaboration in the management of complex patient care problems ensuring continuous quality of patient care.

  • Collaborates with nursing education in developing educational programs for nursing staff, students, and other health care professionals and community groups.

  • Provides expertise in specialty area to other health care professionals and agencies, as well as, to school faculty, industry, and community-based programs when applicable.

  • Collaborates with other disciplines regarding patient management in area of specialization.

  • Incorporates current research findings into clinical practice.

  • Participates in inter-disciplinary research.

  • Initiates nursing research projects, and assists other members of the nursing staff to develop research skills.

Job Qualification

  • Master's Degree in clinical nursing practice.

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

  • CNS certification in applicable specialty practice areas: Adult Health, Oncology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry/Mental Health by a national certification organization (ANCC, AACN or ONCC), required.

The salary range for this position is $94,000-$150,000/year
