Job Description

The New York City Department of Probation (DOP) helps build stronger and safer communities by working with and supervising people on probation, fostering positive change in their decision-making and behavior, and expanding opportunities for them to move out of the criminal and juvenile justice systems through meaningful education, employment, health services, family engagement and civic participation. DOP has over 20 offices located throughout the 5 boroughs in DCAS managed and landlord owned properties.

The Department of Probation is seeking to hire one (1) City Laborer to serve under the direction of the Director of Facilities. The Laborer will:

  • Assist in setting up rooms or spaces for meetings, events, or other department activities.

  • Arrange furniture and equipment as needed.

  • Handle minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as fixing broken furniture or equipment.

  • Report any major maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.

  • Provide support during department events, meetings, or training sessions.

  • Set up and dismantle event equipment and materials.

  • Receive and distribute incoming packages, mail, or supplies.

  • Assist in the organization and storage of delivered items.

  • Collaborate with other departments and personnel to ensure a cohesive and functional working environment.

  • Assist in tasks that contribute to the overall efficiency of departmental operations.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and standards while performing duties.

  • Report any safety concerns or hazards promptly.

  • Maintain records of tasks performed, repairs made, and supplies used.

  • Provide reports or updates on maintenance and facility-related activities as needed.

  • Provide general assistance to department staff and other personnel as required.

  • Respond to requests for support in a timely and efficient manner.

Qualifications

  1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.

  2. There are certain medical and physical requirements.

License Requirements

Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
