M&T Bank Banking Services Operations Associate III - Commercial Real Estate New Loans in New York, New York


Responsible for timely and accurate quality control review of closing documents for new loans, syndication transactions, modifications, extensions and renewals to ensure loan transactions are closed in accordance with loan approval, related documents and Bank policies. Prepares other loan maintenance and transaction processing. Ensures various fees are processed and collected and related general ledger entries are completed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review and extract data from loan documents and ensure accurate processing of new construction loans, syndication transactions, refinance loans, swaps, assumptions and modifications and loan renewals, etc., for preparing input sheet for boarding loan-related transactions on the system, databases and reports. Ensure all new loan, modification and assumption boarding are verified and validated the next day.

  • Ensure proper evidence of hazard insurance as well as accurate real estate tax funds are collected for all closed loans and communicate with tax service agency to request new contracts as required.

  • Verify accuracy of adjustable interest rate and payment calculations. Ensure accuracy of all fees and general ledger entries are received and processed for all related activities.

  • Complete quality control of inputted data for own work and work processed by others as assigned.

  • Ensure all related credit and legal documents are received and that collateral files are prepared and properly filed; ensure related documents are properly scanned and ready to be uploaded onto the system. Ensure receipt of missing documents from closing attorneys and that recorded documents are received timely and follow-up with the attorneys for missing documents. Ensure proper control and safeguarding of Co-op stock certificates and other important or negotiable documents.

  • Prepare or update daily new loan report. Provide production information to higher management to update status of daily workflow.

  • Ensure proper validation of first monthly invoices and timely review, processing and update of ticklers for payment changes.

  • Communicate with participating institutions and Investment Banking group prior to new loan closing to reconcile all fees associated with the loan and collect required documents.

  • Prepare wire template for all participation and syndication loan fees and remittances, including participation sold rate and payment notification, participation bought and construction loan advances. Ensure timely contact with syndicated buyer/seller/servicers to resolve issues with interest rates, payments, documents, etc. Maintain regular communication with the Closing and Compliance Department on issues with pending and closed loans.

  • Participate in various projects regarding HMDA (Home Mortgage Disclosure Act) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) audits and loan transfers. Update collateral property appraisal and property releases.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for the annual boarding of approximately $2 billion of new loans, including construction and syndication loans.

Education and Experience Required:

A combined minimum of 2 years’ higher education and/or work experience

Good personal computer skills with knowledge of pertinent spreadsheet, word processing and email software

Good verbal and written communication skills

Education and Experience Preferred:

Associate's degree

Minimum of 1 year’s related real estate mortgage servicing experience
