The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Associate Research Scientist in New York, New York

Under the direction of the Director for the Clinical and Laboratory Strategies Unit, the Associate Research Scientist (Senior Technical Advisor) will work closely with ICAP's Health Systems Strategies team and other units to plan, implement, and evaluate capacity-building and technical assistance projects related to infection prevention and control (IPC), antimicrobial resistance and quality improvement (QI) in ICAP-supported countries.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Support IPC-related projects and technical assistance activities, including but not limited to: assisting with the design, delivery, management, and evaluation of IPC training and capacity building initiatives 20%

* Assist in overall development and strategic planning of various projects related to IPC, antimicrobial resistance and QI, as well as one health workforce development 20%

* Support global health security and QI related training and technical assistance activities, including but not limited to evaluation of training and capacity building initiatives 20%

* Lead the development, preparation and evaluation of training materials (learning objectives, curricula, lesson plans, slide sets, case studies, etc.) 20%

* Actively participate in the preparation of grant proposals and renewals and preparation of donor reports 10%

* Liaise with other teams within ICAP and within the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health 5%

* Perform other related duties as assigned. 5%

EDUCATION:

  • Doctoral degree in business administration or related discipline
  • Masters degrees in public health and infectious diseases preferred

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* 15 years of relevant experience and demonstrated expertise in the implementation of health programs in low-resource international settings

* 4 years of relevant IPC activities in low-resource settings

* 5 years of relevant adult education and/or training experience

* Demonstrated experience in synthesizing and disseminating best practices and lessons learned to government officials, implementers and key stakeholders

* Excellent English-language verbal and written communications skills

* Demonstrated talent in writing technical content and training materials

* Experience working with complex programs involving short deadlines and multiple tasks, in coordination with multiple partners to achieve program results

* Demonstrated proficiency in the techniques of system design, project management, quality improvement and outcomes

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in global health programs strongly preferred.

* Demonstrated proficiency in the design, delivery and evaluation of competency-based training

* Experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of distance education

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires approximately one (1) week annually of domestic (inside of the United States) travel to meetings and trainings.
  • Requires approximately 40% time of international travel (involving multiple individual trips) to program countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and/or South East
