How will you make an impact?

The Associate Product Manager, Essential Lab Chemicals, will help manage the 10K+ products that comprise the essential lab chemicals product line within the LAR business unit. This position will help lead global portfolio strategies, drive innovative solutions to customer issues, provide market leadership in the development of innovative products, and manage day-to-day operations for growth and profitability. The ideal candidate will enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer by ensuring we can provide them with essential laboratory analytical reagents.

What will you do?

We are seeking an Associate Product Manager, Essential Lab Chemicals who will assist the Sr. Manager, Product Management, Essential Lab Chemicals, LAR in executing a product management life cycle and multi-generational product plan (MGPPs) for our extensive solvent product line. More specifically, the following will be essential elements of the role (with respect to the assigned portfolio):

  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the products and maintain cross-functional relationships with internal departments including Sales, Marketing, R&D/Product Development and Supply Chain, amongst others.

  • Develop long-range product strategies and guide fiscal planning for future positioning, growth, and evolution of the product platform. This includes identifying, establishing and managing strategic relationships with customers, suppliers and industry opinion leaders.

  • Responsible for revenue, margin, customer satisfaction, and market share objectives.

  • Serve as product champion with internal stakeholders, regional teams, and directly with key accounts.

  • Maintain close interaction with field organization (e.g., sales and technical support) through training and active participation in the sales process, including customer visits, pricing tactics, and customer support.

  • Work collaboratively with other product managers and key functional stakeholders across Thermo Fisher organization.

  • Champion successful launches through requirements, development, and commercialization. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Associate Product Manager owns the ultimate customer and financial success of new product introductions (NPIs).

  • Manage the life cycle of the existing product portfolio. Responsibilities include three-year product line strategies (including any relevant product rationalization), pricing /margin optimization, management across the customer value continuum, and customer intimacy efforts.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of industry or other relevant market experience, preferably in portfolio or supplier management.

  • Knowledge of laboratory products and applications, actual working laboratory experience, or understanding of customer requirements in laboratory settings.

  • Sales, marketing, or other commercial functional knowledge preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to develop/implement strategies and recommendations based on both quantitative and qualitative inputs with basic understanding of financial drivers.

  • General business acumen with a basic understanding of financial data and reporting methodologies, various performance metrics and ROI analyses.

  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communications and presentation skills (PowerPoint and Excel expertise).

  • Self-motivated with a track record in executing both short- and long-term plans.

  • Ability to work effectively in a matrix management structure and partner seamlessly within the organization.

  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications and ability to quickly learn/adapt to new productivity tools.

  • Ability to travel up to 15% travel, including occasional international travel.
